Sisyphean

Tintinnabulation. Insouciant. Cash cow.

These are words I hardly ever use so I thought I would now.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be a child. Skipping through the parks, gambolling this way and that, sniffing flowers. Living without a care in the world.

It’s been a terrible week. I went short.

Come back Greece all is forgiven. Come back with your tax dodging, your currency swaps, your baklava and 3-day working week. Don’t become a professional like we have. Don’t lose your humanity.

Bloodthirsty. Volatile. Crisis. Toast.

Words I often use.

Absences

Sorry, been away.

I have been through the gates of hell. But I survived. How I do not know. The tale is one that deserves to be told and I am working to recount it in all its black glory. I intend to publish the story very soon. I call it #Nakamura.

In the meantime to more mundane matters:

The bonus season has come and gone. And how did it go? Well we all got a lot less than we deserved but more than we earned.  How so? Stock options.

Luckily the government doesn’t understand how stock options work. But I’ve got a deep discounted option which is going to climb into the money and I will earn more than I would have had in the heights of bonusdom (2002 to 2007). Sure it’s a trifle unfair but can one be held accountable for success?

And it’s not just me. Goldman, DB, Barc, JPM, ML etc etc

Friends of mine who got paid in stock at UBS in 2009 have seen the value of these ‘dead’ bonuses double in two years.

So I return. Battered, bruised, but alive. Please join me in a toast (Macallan please) to success. As Byron said:

“Absence, the common cure for love.”

Where Am I?
